The Cochran Road Rite-Aid

Thanks to Matt in the Comments for wondering what's up with the Rite-Aid property on Cochran Road. My understanding is that Giant Eagle owns the parcel. Is that right?

I've always thought that this would be a great spot for a family-oriented drive-in. Someplace where kids could go after school and hang out at on Friday nights.

haha, indeed. :)

Mike, at one point Eat 'N Park had had an option on the property, or so I'd heard. I agree with you - some form of family-oriented establishment would be perfect.

Giant Eagle owning it though - that probably means a GetGo, which wouldn't be terrible but I think it's probably not the best use of the space. They renovated the grocery store further down Cochran in the past year so I don't see them opening another, though the property had once been a Shop 'N Save.

Giant Eagle has owned the property for years. Both of the monolith stores (CVS and Rite Aid) went in under the premise that the commonwealth of PA would allow stores to sell beer just like they do in every other freaking state around here except for us.

Well, that hasn't happened yet (and probably never will). Giant Eagle bought the Rite Aid property and shut it down -- at least this is what I was told.

It's a damn shame that the parcel is empty on such a busy road. I don't know why the municipality isn't pushing Giant Eagle harder to do something with it. It's an eyesore!
