Mt. Lebanon Dollar Store Plans Find Some Chilly Attitudes
The Post-Gazette has an article today about the new Dollar General stores coming to town -- with quotes from Josephine and Mike!
I personally agree with Mike on this one. I think that the stores are a good thing -- especially since that Rite-Aid property has been vacant for so long. Do I wish it was a Eat N' Park or Barnes & Noble instead? Absolutely! But I'll take Dollar General if they want to come here.

If you want to read Josephine's original post calling the Dollar General "ghetto", along with everyone's comments, scroll down on the main page to the Archives section on the right hand side and click on September 2005. The entry was made on September 24th.
you mean you're not talking about the actual country: Lebanon? oh well, it's nice to know there's a city somewhere else in the world, with this name.

I removed a comment on this post because I felt that it was rude. Feel free to disagree with one another here, but play nice.

I agree with previous poster (Steve). From Ms. Posti's website:
"Her crisis communications experience includes acting as a corporate spokesperson for lay-offs, management resignations, weather disasters and the sale and closure of a business. She knows how to communicate and sees this skill as critical in successfully serving as a school board director. "
Ummmm, how about think before you speak. Escpecially when running for office.
My concern is that because Ms Posti thinks of a place to get ordinary household items for a cheaper price as "ghetto" does that mean she will not seek out lower prices for things the school district buys.
If she thinks the idea of people buying discount detergent as undesireable than can we trust her to get the taxpayers the best value for their money.
I know some people will think this post is mean but she was the one who brought it up and in such an ugly way. Why not just say you are disappointed to not get a classy store or a cool place to eat? Why call something ghetto?
Ugghhh. The previous poster is right. This is exactly the attitude we DON'T need any more of around here.
Wow, I just stumbled across this site after reading the article in the Post-Gazette, as well visiting as Ms. Posti's candidacy site for the Board of Education. I hate to say it, but she sounds like a caricature of a materialistic, hard-driving yuppie mom. I feel sorry for the people of Mt. Lebanon.
isn't it a sad day when an establishement that would be used by a community to provide affordable merchandise is "ghetto". Just the use of that word perpetuates so many stereotypes, so families seeking to save money are "ghetto". Ms. Posti I have to ask you, have you ever lived in a "ghetto? have you even set foot in one? the connotation of that word is so strong and so derogatory it makes me wonder how women in the public sphere that is as well educated as yourself could not have the insight to think before you speak. And let me just say, being raised in the inner city myself and no working on a masters degree in sociology, that the community where you live is not free of it's own stereotypes and comments such as yours reinforce them.
sorry for the typos in the previous message, i was in quite a rush :)
We all know what she meant by "ghetto". She's implying that the Dollar Store will attract Black shoppers, and that this will have a negative impact on the community.

Just wondering why Jo's original post on September 24th has been deleted? Escpecially if she didn't mean anything by it -like she said.
I deleted a Comment that was falsely attributed to Josephine, and I also deleted a Comment by Ken that responded to that Comment. I assume that Ken was writing in good faith, but since he was relying on bad information, I felt that it was inappropriate to leave his comment up.
