Lebo: Unmarked Dodge Magnum Police Car

Does the Mt. Lebanon Police Department have a new unmarked police car? On Washington Road in Mt. Lebanon recently, I saw a police officer in an unmarked Dodge Magnum -- with red and blue lights flashing -- writing a traffic ticket for a stopped vehicle. The type and color of the police vehicle is illustrated at right.

Yes Mike. That Dodge Magnum you saw is in fact one of the new cars that the traffic division uses for enforcement. I think it's a great idea when any police department (not just ours) uses undercover cars to catch people. Speeding causes injury and death and any way to stop that is fine by me!

Joe,
I wonder about the cost of the car. A Dodge Magnum isn't the most expensive vehicle on the lot, but I believe that the Department had a serviceable -- and less glamorous -- undercover vehicle in the past (a black or dark blue Crown Vic, I think). Did the Department need a new one?
Also, given the large and very visible police cruiser presence in Mt. Lebanon, I wonder about the marginal (i.e., added) benefit that we get from use of the unmarked car.

Cops in unmarkeds, that's foul. How are you going to flag a police officer down if he's in a regular car? Also, it's super sneaky to be pulling people over in those rides. Don't play it off like you're concerned about safety- You guys are just trying to meet your quotas and generate revenue. Come Clean.
