Lebo: Crime Wave?

Is drug-related crime getting out of control in Mt. Lebanon? Has some of this activity moved into Lebo from Bethel Park, where they have stricter policing, more experienced officers, and more resources? That's one way to read the comments by the Chief of Police.

I don't know about Bethel but I do know that when I lived in Dormont eight years ago, we found used syringes in our alley. From what I hear via people who still live in that vicinity is that the syringes have moved from the alley to some front yards. After moving here, our house was robbed by a contractor looking for fast cash to get a fix. Toto, we're not in Kansas anymore, if we ever were.

Crime is everywhere...not just in the "bad" neighborhoods of the city and surrounding area, but everywhere! People seem to think that these things don't happen in "my town", but Mt. Lebanon is no different that any other town. Go out and buy a scanner and tune into the Mt. Lebanon Police channel. Our police officers have to deal with all kinds of things on a daily basis. Most people never thought that anything bad could happen here -- until Richard Baumhammers started his murder spree in Virginia Manor. Most people think that it's just bad kids from bad neighborhoods or bad parents that do things -- but yet, three Mt. Lebanon High School graduates are sitting in prison for murdering someone because of drugs and money.

The fact is -- we have crime in this town just like everyone else does. We as a society need to be more cognizant of who and what are around us. If someone looks suspicious to you in your neighborhood, call the police! That's what they get paid to do -- make sure that they keep us and our town safe!
