Deer Debate Continues

On a day when thousands of hunters donned orange and hoped to blast a buck in the woods, dozens of Mt. Lebanon residents fired comments at the municipal commission last night from both sides of the deer-culling issue.

Hey Joe,

The link is broken, it should point here.

Also, Mike - can anything be done to include the date comments were made, in addition to the time? I've gone back over the past few threads and it's hard to tell who posted when after a few days have passed.

(Also, what would really be nice is if the front page showed the date/time of the most recent comment for each post. But now I'm just getting greedy :)

Mike, thanks for the format change. I had been thinking the same thing as Matt, particularly since a number of topics have gotten so many posts recently.

I think the debate is simple. People like seeing deer in their back yard.

People don't like dying in a car wreck by hitting a deer.

Dying superceeds the nice feeling you get seeing a deer in your back yard.

Still think it is a simple decision. Big deer/Little deer, they need controlled because I don't want to run into either.

This coming from someone who enjoys watching the deer frollick in the back yard.

Oh my God! So Greg, you're saying instead of 90 120-pound deer, we will have 18 deer who tip the scales at about 720 pounds each. Or will it be something like, 300-pound deer and a bunch of 40-pound squirrels, maybe a sprinkling of 15-pound chipmunks? Either way, certainly a sobering vision :)

Dear deer,

Please stop eating our gardens and walking in our streets.

We would like you to hop around in our backyard, for decorative purposes, especially when we have company to entertain. Please note: After a snowfall, it is very picturesque.

But please only go to the bathroom in woodsy areas, so we don't have to smell it.

Thank you,

Lebo homeowner
