Donation Allows Endowment

It's been in the planning for the past five years and now the Mt. Lebanon Community Endowment has become a reality.

Mt. Lebanon Commissioner Dale Colby said a recent $10,000 donation from the Mt. Lebanon Soccer Foundation met the requirement to get the endowment started and to have it managed by the Pittsburgh Foundation.

Mt. Lebanon Soccer charges each each player over $100 a year to play travel soccer. Can someone please explain why Mt. Lebanon Soccer Association can't afford to renovate existing soccer fields that are mud pits or move forward and build much needed fields on property recently purchased or even provide uniforms to their teams like other communities do... yet they can GIVE AWAY $10,000 for a non-soccer use?

$10,000 - Does not begin to cover it.

According to the Mount Lebanon magazine this summer - - the soccer guys are giving the whole $135,000 that was promised to the township to build another field in Mount Lebanon.

The Magazine said about the Endowment in July:

"Providing the lead grant is the Mt. Lebanon Soccer Foundation, which has contributed $135,000 to the endowment from the sale of property it owned on Connor Road."

So the question still is WHY did MLSA give away the money that could have been used to build much needed fields?

Is it 10k or 135k? To the endowment or to the township? For fields or colby's pet project? And yes ____ WHY did MLSA give away the money? There are families and kids that could benefit from this kind of assistance in all the sports programs. What are they thinking?

Why didn't the township report that this money was promised to mcneelly field when it reported the 135 gift to the endowment? Does the magazine know it was already promised? Does colby get his picture in the paper every time he gives the same money away?

Does breaking a promise to give the money to the township - make anybody feel good about giving their money to colby's endowment?

Colby has been selling this for years with few takers. He needed money for credibility and must have pursued his friends. But they did not give their money. They donated money held in trust for the soccer programs. He also might have gotten money one year from Mount Lebanon, where did that go?
