Martha's Run and Playground Dedication
Mt. Lebanon has set April 7, the day of Martha's Run, as the official dedication of Martha's Playground at Main Park. The $571,000 signature playground, off Cedar Boulevard, has been under construction since the fall. The playground is named for former Mt. Lebanon resident Martha Dixon Martinez, an FBI agent who was killed in the line of duty. The Dixon Foundation contributed $50,000 to the project.
Martha's Run, a race over the streets of Mt. Lebanon, includes a 10K, a one-mile walk and a two-mile fun run.
The day at the park also will include the town's Easter egg hunt, which will be at 11:30 a.m. instead of its usual time of 1 p.m.

On a different note: what the heck about those school cancellations?
$571,000 for a playground that replaced a playground that worked just fine??? In the summer - there are always kids there. Whose priorities are these? Was the old playground even paid off?
Hey now. That is a "signature" playground. (Whatever that means.) I'll bet they got a TIF too.
Where's my Bower Hill turning lane?
Can't help with the turning lane - we needed a jungle gym. Maybe the schools can pay for the turning lane.
Instead of having an incredible playground, we should have gotten an excellent playground, and a turning lane.
Holy cats, people, the playground was privately funded, it wasn't taken from the taxes that should be paying for that Bower Hill turn lane. I know nothing about whether the playground was needed or not, but it was
A. A freebie
B. Probably not a step down
Somebody brought you lemonade and you're complaining that it's not champagne.
Sheesh.

The playground funding included a $50,000 contribution from the Martha Dixon Foundation. Thank You!
And - - - $521,000 from the Municipal budget (tax money).
Maybe they should start asking for donations for a turning lane. The biggest donator could have their name on a sign that says "Thanks _____ for making 10,000 lives a little easier each day."
qvHas anyone seen that new Playground? Did we get robbed or what? Did the planners ever think about all the large groups of kids
for example- Camp Chippeewee during the summer for 3- 5 year olds approx 150 kids use the playset daily. Th new playarea looks like it should be in a residents backyard not in main park for a community with over 25,000 in population.
My 4th grader said, "It's a baby and toddler playground! Now I can't use it." Ahhh... when good intentions turn expensive and awry.

Um, Playground, swings, kids; they all go together except in Mt. Lebanon, where only 2 toddlers can swing at a time.
Where are all the toddler swings?
2 for all those kids? I think I will get in line now.
