Smartschan To Aid Superintendent Hunt

The Mt. Lebanon school board has hired the search firm of McPherson and Jacobson of Omaha, Neb., to oversee the search for a new superintendent to replace George Wilson, who hopes to retire at the end of the school year.

To assist the search firm, the board has hired former Mt. Lebanon Superintendent Glenn Smartschan as a consultant. The cost of the search is not to exceed $21,000, plus the expenses of the consultants.

The above is a link to Mike Madison's commentary on Dr. Sable.

The Board has agreed to hire a superintendent search firm who after they find a superintendent will perform the following under Phase V of their Contract (available at the superintent's office):

"Working with the school board and the new superintendent, establish performance objectives for the superintendent.

Provide evaluation forms for the superintendent's six-month and one year evaluations.

Assure evaluative procedures are in compliance with established board policy."

Why would a search firm do PERFORMANCE OBJECTIVES?

Why are EVALUATION FORMS done by a search firm?

Why is a search firm ASSURING EVALUATIVE procedures are in COMPLIANCE with BOARD POLICY?

These are all board responsibilities. Does this contract, read with Mike's memo, provide insight to work left undone by our school board?
