Not Your Father's Rules
The Post-Gazette published an article today regarding how discipline is handled in the various athletic departments of school districts around the Pittsburgh area. The Shane Phillips situation at MLHS is, of course, mentioned in the article as well.
It's interesting to see the differences between the MLSD's policy on this issue (if it doesn't happen on school grounds, we can't do anything about it!) and the other school districts' policies (you will be disciplined regardless of where you get in trouble!).

Today's news also had an interesting article about an Administator that is sueing for information posted on the Web by students...gee, wonder if that was done at school. The 25 list is taken seriously when the victim is a teacher or principal.

What's interesting to me is that the district's policy for "performance enhancing substances" used by athletes does cover use on and off school grounds.
Well, at least, it doesn't explicitly reference "School District locations" the way the Student Drug and Alcohol Offenses policy does.
Both policies were originally enacted on the same day, 11/19/90. I wonder how long the jurisdiction disparity has been there.
Carol Walton running AGAIN? Need I say more?
