Sex Offenders Could Be Banned From Living Near Schools
Several Allegheny County communities, including Ross and Mt. Lebanon, are considering ordinances prohibiting sex offenders from living near schools, but one county council member hopes to pass a uniform law for all 130 towns.
Megan's Law, which requires sex offenders and sexually violent predators to register their addresses with law enforcement, has no residency restrictions.
People from Mt. Lebanon and Ross have recently asked for the ordinances, but County Councilman Vince Gastgeb, R-Bethel Park, thinks it makes more sense to pass a single ordinance for the county.

I don't really know what I believe about this. Will not living near a school really stop a sex offender who wants to re - offend? Probably not. Another Mt. Lebanon resident pleaded guilty today of child porn. He doesn't live too far from Foster School. How far away is far enough?
Anon Mom of 4 kids (sorry anon of 3)
If Mt. Lebanon wants to pass this, and then face the ACLU in court and pay how much in legal fees, and then lose (as well they should) - well, they can be boneheads, I guess. Whether some of us like it or not, we ALL have rights. It's parents' responsibility to keep an eye on their kids. (Yes, of course, the local community has an obligation to protect them too, but that's what the police - who apparently are on top of the situation - are supposed to do.)
At least parents know where this person lives...how about the scout leader, pastor, teacher, coach, music teacher, uncle, friendly neighbor that hides behind positions of respect and authority. Stranger danger is not the only thing that we as parents must warn of kids about.
The last blog warning has become reality...close to home. Just a few miles from Mt Lebanon...in the quiet little town of Canonsburg, a Canon Mac school computer technician employee/softball coach has pleaded guilty to sexually assaulting two teen age girls. In this day and age, parents must be vigilant.
