Nearly 400 Mt. Lebanon residents have four more days to decide what to do with their cracked and uneven sidewalks. During an annual assessment of sidewalks, municipal workers identified 382 sections on 28 streets in need of repair. Residents received letters last week and must let officials know if they plan to make repairs themselves or have a contractor hired by the municipality do it.
"This program, it's a benefit to the residents," said public works manager Tom Kelley. "We have a fairly substantial sidewalk network that is pretty heavily used by the residents."

Sidewalks are one of the many things I love about Mt. Lebanon. One of the downsides of sidewalks, however, is the cost of maintaining them.
Several years ago my neighborhood got "the letters." There was much wailing and nashing of teeth, especially from the people who got the $400 and $600 "bills". The lucky "ones" had bills as low as $75.
Meanwhile, up on Washington Road, where pedestrian traffic is very heavy, one of the big, beautiful churches with a lot of frontage has badly eroded, cracked sidewalks that are unlovely to look at as well as providing potentially dangerous uneven footing for pedestrians. What's up with that?

You would think that Lebo as a whole could get a good rate, but since it is Government, probably not....
Lebo should at least leave an estimate with their "Assessment" so the homeowners could shop around.
What church has bad sidewalks?
Does anyone know?
If I was not cited for bad sidewalks but want this company to repair mine while they are in Mt. Lebo, can I call the municipality to ge on the work list?
I checked out all of the churches on Washington Road.I don't see any church that fits this description.
FYI.......Not cited, but having this company do the work before I get cited! The municipality was very helpful with providing information about this provider of the company was very nice on the phone.

I believe that the comment directed to "one of the big, beautiful churches with a lot of frontage has badly eroded, cracked sidewalks" comment was a metaphor for the state of spirituallity in Mt. Lebanon.
Sometimes things aren't just concrete.
As a property owner in Mt. Lebanon, I am outraged at the sidewalk program. I have a tiny crack on three slabs in my sidewalk and asked if I could patch up the cracks myself. I was told that the entire slab needs removed. So what should cost me about $25 to do will end up costing me almost $350!!!
And Tom Kelley's remark that it is cheaper if we find our own contractor to do it is a crock. Both contractors I called to get an estimate said to go with Lebo's contractor because it's a cheaper rate. They said because Lebo's contractor is doing all of the sidewalks they are offering a bulk rate.
However, both contractors also said they never had the opportunity to bid on this project which is leading them to believe that someone is getting a kickback.
