Mt. Lebanon Street Party Will Aid Autism Center
When Cindy Waeltermann got the diagnosis for her nearly 3-year-old son, she recalled, "All I heard was 'autism,' and I think my ears started ringing. I heard nothing after that."
To compound her distress, her younger son later was also diagnosed with autism. "That truck didn't kill me when it ran over me, so it backed up to make sure I was completely dead," she said.
Such reactions are common among parents in her position and that's one of the reasons for the group she directs, the Autism Center of Pittsburgh/AutismLink. The center now needs a South Hills location, which could cost $15,000. That's where ULTRAparty comes in. ULTRAparty, a street jam Aug. 3 in Mt. Lebanon, will offer music, food and drinks with proceeds benefitting the Autism Center of Pittsburgh/AutismLink.

What a great time last night at First Friday and then the UltraParty. Got a little loud after 8:30 or so but it was so wonderful to see the slices from Caruso's flying off the pan as fast as they could cook the pies!
I was worried that the heat would keep people away but from 6pm on, the entire downtown has abuzz with action. The bands were great, the restaurants were packed (couldnt find a seat even at Aladdin's around 8:30!), the people were having fun. After grabbing a slice at Caruso's we left around 9 or so.
Thanks to the LEBO group for putting this on. Though most of the crowd was of the under 35 variety, there were still a good number of older folks hanging around just to enjoy the atmosphere. I wonder how much was raised for the Autism Center.
How many people were visiting from out of town and were thinking, 'Man, what a happenin' place this is!'?
