Mt. Lebanon Pianist Wins $10,000 Scholarship

Mt. Lebanon High School junior Alvin Zhu has been playing the piano since he was four. While some teens may be playing video games, he has been practicing two to three hours a day, winning competitions including First Place in the Aikens - Cadman Competition in Pittsburgh, the 2007 Pittsburgh Concert Society Young Artists Audition and the 2006 - 2007 Ann Keller Young Soloist Competition.

He was chosen by the program as one of 25 recipients of a $10,000 scholarship from the Jack Kent Cooke Foundation. The award which can be applied towards music lessons, college tuition, instrument purchases, competition fees will support Alvin's studies at the Aspen Music Festival and School this summer and a 2008 youth orchestra tour to Italy.
