New Development Coming To Former Ground Round Site

Plans for a 8,012-square-foot retail complex at the site of the Ground Round restaurant received preliminary approval from the Mt. Lebanon planning board Tuesday night. Family Christian Bookstore has committed to the largest unit, taking approximately half of the space in what will be a single-story building on the site.

Used to work there as a bus boy (orange uniform and all) when it was Howard Johnsons, 30+ years ago ... Miss the 28 flavors - but not the midnight shift.

I remember that Howard Johnsons! Ate there a few times as a kid with mom during shopping trips between the old Kaufmann's and the Village. My family frequented the HJ located at the corner of Greentree & Cochran (now the tire store). I always got the same thing: kids hotdog in a piece of folded toast (no bun).

Maybe Blog Lebo will do a Things That Aren't There Anymore Mt. Lebanon ala Rick Sebak (hint hint)
