To the Commissioner who believes that fields are not essential to our community, you have an open invitation to join me for a beer or cup of coffee to explain your logic in detail. Please - at your convenience.

Better yet, join me as I travel to other communities with my three kids and look at the field space of our neighbors. Then join me at one of my kids' home games here in Lebo and take a minute to interview the parents, players and coaches from the visiting teams. As an elected official, I think you'll be more than just a bit embarrassed.

Great point. Better yet, I invite the Commissioner to post a reply here so we all know his reasoning. I would invite both of the opposition Commissioners to post their reasoning and the two Commissioners other than Mr. Miller who supported the field project to post their reasoning. As Mr. Miller says, absent publicly televising the hearings, this is about as good an opportunity as any. So...Commish's...post away!!

It looks as though that 1st Ward Commissioner Raja was one of the commissioners against the bond issuance based upon his most recent blog posting.

It appears that Raja was the Commish who opposed the bond issuance based upon the current economic climate. While I personally believe that investing in field space is similar to investing in sewers, the ice rink, and sidewalks (i.e. these are hard assets that need to be maintained regardless of the economy), I'm not going to debate Raja's position in these unique economic times. Plus, it sounds as though he is at least in favor of locating more and/or improving the existing field space through other options, and I see that as a positive.

However, I still remain interested in hearing from the other Commish who Dan Miller reported as stating that fields are "not essential" to the community.
My open invitation still stands.
