League of Women Voters Launches Candidate Site
At www.smartvoter.org, the site allows voters to type in their addresses and get a list of the offices and candidates that will be on their ballot. Or they can browse through a list of races from throughout Allegheny County -- or any number of other counties nationwide that are on the site -- and click on the links of candidates who have submitted information about themselves and their platforms. Municipal, county, judicial and school board races are included.
The League of Women Voters of Greater Pittsburgh sent invitations to around 1,000 candidates to post information on the site, according to the chapter's press release, As of this morning, around 85 candidates had taken up the offer. The other candidates are listed, but there is no link to their biographical information and platforms.

PLEASE NOTE: On Blog-Lebo, we do not publish anonymous comments. You must put your name to your words. Include your full name in the text of your comment (usually at the end), and you’ll be fine. Or post from a Blogger account having a public profile that includes your full name. Either way will work. But if you don’t include your name, or if we have reason to believe the name on your comment isn’t authentic, we will not be able to publish your comment.
Why must I use my full name?
When you post a comment on Blog-Lebo, you are making a public statement. Therefore, we require that you accept responsibility for your words. Just like at a public meeting of the school board or municipal government, when you stand to speak on Blog-Lebo, you must state your full name. That way, everyone will know who is speaking, and you will know that you’re responsible for what you say.
I had the opportunity to check this out last night. I thought that it was a very helpful tool. My only wish is that more candidates would post their information. Here in the 4th ward we have 4 individuals (2 from each party) running for the seat that Dale Colby is vacating. Although my choice is only 2 of them, I'd like to see what the other 2 stand for to help me out in the general election in November. Perhaps by then, word will get out and more will post.
