Results Of Weekend Mt. Lebanon DUI Checkpoint Released

The Mt. Lebanon Area DUI Task Force has released results of a checkpoint that was held late Saturday night into early Sunday morning on Washington Road.

Five people were arrested on DUI charges, and four more were charged with possession of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia. One person was charged with possession of a controlled substance.

Ten traffic citations were issued. Police from Mt. Lebanon, Baldwin Township, Bridgeville, Castle Shannon, Dormont, Green Tree, Heidelberg, Scott Township and South Fayette are in the task force.

It always surprises me how checkpoints work here in Pennsylvania in that they publicize ahead of time when and where the checkpoint will be. It seems to me that it would make a lot more sense having it at random times without telling anybody.

I went to college in the south and distinctly remember one night, as a designated driver coming to and from a party, my car ended up at a checkpoint four times in four different locations by the same set of police officers. By the third stop, they recognized me as the DD and just let us go.

Pennsylvania's system doesn't allow that type of flexibility. The first one out of the party can just call his or her friends and let them know they need to avoid Washington Road.

Seems silly...
