Sitting around a table in the municipal building last week, Mt. Lebanon residents answered questions about their community.
They described what they liked: The ability to walk to shops and restaurants, the public safety departments, the diversity of housing and the community feel.
They discussed what they would change: Improving the infrastructure, updating facilities such as the pool and recreation center and maintaining sidewalks.

Yeah, and the reporter failed to include the attendance of Dir. Of Public Information Susan Morgans and Deputy Chief of Police Gene Roach sitting behind and to the side of her as well.
It was very disappointing to see so few members of the general public attend....and ditto for this week also ! The random mail survey will hope to generate 400 usable responses, the problem being that the questionnaire draft appears to be too long and too general (i.e. would you be willing to pay more, the same or less for X municipal service ?...for which a respondant will have no or little clue that it is a current service in some cases, or what it costs, or what "more" or "less" might conceivably mean...1%, 10%, $, ?). Hopefully, the Focus Group facilitors will not employ the Delphi Technique because it may result in biased results....in this case the bias of the likely facilitator, Mr. Kohn, who seemed to have his own, rather preconceived and fixed opinions about Lebo and the world outlook during the meeting last week.
Good luck Lebo...this is a very important undertaking. Lets not permit the tail to wag the dog.
There is a three-minute survey on the municipality website (link also on Lebocitizens.com) but there is a bug in the surveymonkey link. Sometimes, it works and sometimes, it just takes you back to the municipality home page. It is a shame that the school district has raised the taxes so much that the municipality has to come up with a survey to see what services we, the taxpayers, are willing to eliminate/cut.

I agree with Bill Lewis and I think that more residents should get interested in local government - and exercise their right to vote!
I also think that we should either sell-off "Mt. Lebanon Magazine" or discontinue its operations. Each time that I read "Mt Lebanon Magazine" I feel that the tone of the publication sounds rather old and tired. My personal opinion is that the time has come to dispose of it.
Unlike public safety, the publication of "Mt Lebanon Magazine" is not an activity that is governmental in nature.
The publisher of "The Almanac" has an equivalent publication that I feel does a much better job of addressing community issues. Since an attractive private sector alternative is in print, why keep publishing our municipal publication, "Mt Lebanon Magazine"?
