Changes Coming To 701 Washington Road?

It has come to our attention that a number of the tenants of 701 Washington Road (the building at the corner of Washington Road and Alfred Street) have received letters stating that their leases will not be renewed or extended beyond August 2011. The businesses in this building are as follows:
  1. Soundcolor Productions
  2. Monte's Barber Shop
  3. Angie's Antique Center
  4. Mt. Lebanon Shoe Repair
  5. Facade
  6. Christian Science Reading Room
  7. Resonance Violins
  8. Art by M.A.
  9. Morris Landscaping
  10. M.E. Maloney LCSW
  11. Joseph Cvitkovic PhD
  12. Barbara Marsh PhD
  13. Hetz Marsh ACSW DMIN
  14. Massery Photography
  15. Tom Underiner ~ Pixel River
Does anyone know anything more about this? Any ideas on what may be happening to the building?

Howard Hanna bought the place for $700,000. They're going to renovate the place and then move in.

I am not at all happy about this. That's a lot of businesses gone and for what?

What a shame if they are removing all of those stores for a Howard Hanna office. That's our only "public square" area and half of the stores will be gone in favor of office space.

You know, I'd really be interested in having Mt. Lebanon limit non-store retail (such as doctor's offices, etc.) to second floors instead of hogging all of the first floor space along Washington Road.

One question that begs to be answered is what is going to become of the space where Howard Hanna is now? Isn't that a fairly large spot?

Now, that's prime real estate for a shop since it has it's own parking lot.

Liz,

The Howard Hanna office in Uptown is located at 607 Washington. That building :

1) is commonly referred to as the "Howard Hanna building", but it is notowned by Hanna...Hanna is the leasing agent/property manager, but the building is owned by a Trust in the name of a Uniontown cardiologist, at least the last time I looked; and,

2) was listed in the school district's "delinquent & liened tax list" in July for some $21,000 in muni. and school back taxes...the county listing shows a delinquency as well, I think; and,

3) the 607 building is located next to the parking lot parcel that spans from the 607 building to the 615 Executive Building (parcel had been owned but continues to be operated by the Parking Authority and designated as the North Lot); and,

4) this Lot has been sold by the Authority and is now owned by the intended developer of the hotel, whose plan, approved by Lebo, seems to be on hold.

Things aren't always what they seem to be in 'ol Lebo.

The information from Bill Lewis concerning Howard Hanna's ownership of 607 Washington Road is correct...it is only rented by Howard Hanna and in fact no longer managed by HH. The purchase of 701 Washington Road does represent Hanna ownership of property here, and the plans are for the entire building to be renovated and the front be restored...this will be a considerable expense, and more important, an investment in Mt Lebanon....paying taxes, maintaining the property etc.
Current tenants were notified by previous owner before the building became available for sale...
