Trib: Mt. Lebanon water main break buckles Cedar Boulevard

A water main break in Mt. Lebanon buckled a portion of Cedar Boulevard tonight.

The break that occurred at 7 p.m. in the 1100 block of Cedar Boulevard damaged the driveways and landscape of several homes and caused minor flooding in the basements of three homes, Mt. Lebanon fire Lt. Chris Switala said.

    Does anybody else think that we have an unusually high frequency of utility service interruptions in Mt Lebanon?

    Isn't there anything that we can do as a community to encourage the PUC to pressure the electric company to cut tree branches, the gas company to replace (versus repair) spent lines, the water company to replace the worn-out cast iron pipes, etc?

    These unfortunate outcomes are remain on-going examples of a broken deregulatory model that should have never been enacted!

    I don't follow you. Were these amounts actually proposed?

    Let me ask you, "What is the value of uninterrupted electric power to an elderly resident who requires a respiratory device; or to a hospital with a trauma center?"

    Hospitals have emergency generators powered by natural gas and/or enough diesel fuel for 72 hours run time.
