Learn Something New, Help Local Students

Over at her blog Center Court, Jo Posti has a great idea to help you learn something new this year: make a commitment. We make commitments to eat less, to go to the gym – so why not to learn something?

To help you follow through, Jo invites you to send her an email, telling her what you’re committing to learn. For each person who sends one, she will make a donation to the Mt. Lebanon Foundation for Education. Your email not only helps you learn something, but helps local students learn something, too. Pretty good deal.

I’ve already sent in my email. How about you? What are you going to learn this year?

MLFE and PTA To Host "Community Conversation"

The Mt. Lebanon Foundation for Education and the Mt. Lebanon Parent Teacher Association are hosting "Community Conversation on Education in Mt. Lebanon" at 7 p.m. April 16 in the municipal building, 710 Washington Road.

Featured speaker will be district Superintendent John Allison and the audience may ask questions. "This event will provide a wonderful opportunity for me to have a conversation with the community about our schools and the progress we are making to meet the goals of our strategic plan," Mr. Allison said.

Vernadean Passodelis, foundation president, said the event may be the first what the foundation hopes is a tradition of such conversation. For more, call 412.478.7743 or visit www.mlfe.org.

MLFE Raises $4,100

The Mt. Lebanon Foundation for Education raised $4,100 through ticket sales for its second annual Menu Tasting and Wine Pairing fund-raiser, held earlier this month. The event at Isabela on Grandview Restaurant, generated $100 from each $135 ticket to benefit the foundation, which provides education programs for the students in Mt. Lebanon schools. A holiday mailing appeal raised another $2,235.

The foundation was established in 1999 and is a donor advised endowment fund through the Pittsburgh Foundation. It's mission is to provide a permanent source of financial support to enable the Mt. Lebanon School District to expand and enhance learning opportunities for students. Since its inception, the foundation has raised more than $125,000, awarding 70 grants to teachers for innovative classroom projects. See more at www.mlfe.org or call Jackie Foor at 412-478-7743.
