The Almanac: ML group to host tours of churches

The Historical Society of Mount Lebanon will host another walking tour of two historic churches at 6 p.m. Friday, Aug. 12.

Society docents will lead "Saints & Stained Glass" tours inside St. Bernard and Mt. Lebanon United Presbyterian churches on Washington Road. The tour, which will take about 90-minutes, covers the history of both churches with a primary focus on the stained glass windows. Tour-goers should meet in the parking lot of the Presbyterian church.

Trib: Mission serving Mt. Lebanon church welcomes Grammy-winning band

Tonight's performance of the celebrated Grammy-winning bluegrass group The Del McCoury Band will make this year's annual week of community outreach projects for the Mt. Lebanon United Presbyterian Church extra special.

The group will play in the church's sanctuary, which seats 1,100. Associate Pastor Steve Aguzzi, who knows McCoury band members and arranged for the 7:30 p.m. concert, noted that they play more often to much larger crowds at musical festivals.

Mt. Lebanon Congregation Completes Numerous 'Missions Possible'

Members of the Mt. Lebanon United Presbyterian Church last week made many missions possible.

The church sponsored numerous activities as part of its third annual "Mission Possible" week, with members committed to assisting people and making improvements within a three-mile radius of the church.

"There were a lot of needs and a lot of pain within that area," said Steve Aguzzi, associate pastor.

Mt Lebanon Hosts Concert During Mission Week

Mt. Lebanon United Presbyterian Church will host a free concert with guitarist and musician Phil Keaggy at 7 p.m. next Thursday at the church, 255 Washington Road in Mt. Lebanon, as part of its Mission Possible III trip into the community to serve neighbors.

"We were looking for an artist who could appeal to those outside the church, but one whose life witnessed to the Christian message. Phil Keaggy fits the bill," said event organizer and associate pastor Steve Aguzzi.

A free-will offering will be taken; money raised benefits Family Guidance, a local ministry that works to strengthen families and help at-risk youth.

Church On Mission Trip In Mt. Lebanon

Praise the Lord and pass the coffee creamer. Doling out free java and spiritual inspiration, Cinda Isler and about nine others were on the front line of the Washington Road commute last week.

"We have a driveway right next to St. Bernard's Church," said Mrs. Isler, a Pittsburgh Theological Seminary student from Mt. Lebanon who combined caffeine with a higher calling.

"People turned in to our parking lot and we have these tents set up and people waiting [to serve]. We give them their coffee and say 'Would you like us to pray for you today?' There hasn't been one person who hasn't said yes."

Lebo Church's Summer Mission Stays Home

Beverly and Neil Brem took vacation time off work for the annual mission of Mt. Lebanon United Presbyterian Church. Only this time, they weren't going to Africa or the Dominican Republic. Their project was in Mt. Lebanon and Castle Shannon.

The church committed to a local mission this summer, and 250 of the 800 members last week got involved in assisting people and making improvements within a 1.5-mile radius of the church. They called it "Mission Possible."
