The Almanac: 1,000-point mark latest success for Lebo's Lang

Although an avid Steelers' football fan, not to mention a Michigan State recruit, Paul Lang missed Pittsburgh's come-from-behind victory, 31-24, over the Baltimore Ravens in the NFL playoffs because the Mt. Lebanon senior helped the Blue Devils defeat Canon-McMillan, 61-41, this past Saturday in high school basketball.

"It was okay," Lang said, "because I feel like when I watch them play, I jinx them."

Lang is neither a jinx to the Steelers nor any athletic team for that matter, particularly those clubs for which he competes.

Trib: Mt. Lebanon wins section showdown with Chartiers Valley

On this night, Mt. Lebanon was the best defending WPIAL champion in Section 4-AAAA.

"We can't make an assumption that it's still ours," said Mt. Lebanon's Paul Lang, who scored 21 points Wednesday night in a 54-50 win over Chartiers Valley, a section-opening meeting between two of last season's WPIAL winners. "We have to earn it ourselves."

The Almanac: Lebo goes after additional goals

Just a teenager, Paul Lang already has formulated his "bucket list" and last Friday, the Mt. Lebanon senior scratched off one of those items.

When his Blue Devils finally defeated Upper St. Clair, 14-10, they not only scored their first triumph against their long-time rival since 2001 but they also captured their first conference championship since going undefeated and winning a WPIAL title in 2000.

"This feels awesome," Lang said. "Our goal was to finish No. 1 in the conference and I've not beaten Upper St. Clair. So that's been on my bucket list."
