Mike (et al.),

I created a new MtL Police Blotter feed using a better, more programmable feed generation service. Check it out here.

Apparently FeedYes is selling itself anyhow, so maybe this is for the best. :)

Maybe you need a new tagline for the blog though? "Blog-Lebo - the only place for anonymity in Mt. Lebanon!"

This is a good thing. It will encourage accountability in the township. It will probably be googleable.

I agree, it's a good thing. Did anyone notice the number of underage alcohol related arrests? I find that alarming!

Regarding the number of underage alcohol arrests, either these Lebo kids don't know how to sneak around with alcohol, or the Lebo police are that good.

This evidence of underage drinking underscores the admonitions of our local District Magistrate,Blaise-- where is the parenting, where is the accountability ? Underage drinking is not a new problem here, but the magnitude is alarming! When my children were in school here, district enrollment exceeded 8,000 students --- now it is 5,400.It would not be surprising to hear that underage drinking is 3 or more times more than it was 20 years or so ago. I wish the Blotter would name the parents if laws prevent naming the minors.

Underage drinking is a problem everywhere....I mean everywhere. And yes, everywhere it is worse now than 20 years ago.

Is part of the problem that there is no supervision of these kids after school or during vacation times? In my neighborhood(near uptown), there are quite a few single mothers raising kids. I see these highschoolers daily coming home to an empty house for up to four hours until the mother comes home from work. Usually right after the kid comes home, other kids and girls come over and stay for various times. Mind you these kids are not studying for the SAT test. These are not the same type of kids that attending Mt Lebo 30 years ago.

heh. As someone who graduated from Lebo 20 years ago, I would bet that the rate of underage drinking is nowhere near 3 times what it was 20 years ago. I didn't know a single person who waited until they were 21 to start drinking. Lots of kids were drinking occasionally by 9th grade, and by the time we were seniors, basically everyone drank -- not just the burners and lowlifes, but everyone... jocks, cheerleaders, the band, rockettes...

Why is everyone so puritanical about underage drinking anyway? It's not as if on their 21st birthday kids are suddenly embued with whatever personal attributes are needed to drink responsibly. Just as with anything else, kids learn that responsibility -- in this case by drinking underage.

Blaise asks "where are the parents?" The answer is that because drinking is illegal, parents have abdicated their responsibility to teach their children how to deal with something that's pervasive in adult life. So the kids take it upon themselves to learn.

Prohibition didn't work for adults. Why does anyone think it will work for teenagers?

Thanks for pointing out the blotter.

As for underage drinking, I wonder if the uptick in citations indicates an increase in REPORTING by neighbors. Perhaps more people are paying attention and reporting incidents when they see them.

Sorry to say, kids drank a lot when I was a teen here some 30 years ago.
