Police are looking for an armed man who robbed a pizza shop early Sunday morning in Mt. Lebanon.

Authorities said a female manager was closing the Vocelli Pizza on Washington Road for the night when an armed man walked in and demanded money.

A Mt. Lebanon school director cited for public drunkenness early Saturday morning said he has no intention of resigning from the school board.

Scott Goldman, 42, said he was in an establishment on Washington Road celebrating with friends when, at the end of the night, he decided to walk to his home about 20 minutes away, a familiar route he said he's taken before with his family.

P-G: Mt. Lebanon police mourn loss of police dog Sundi

Just a few months after they hit the road together, Mt. Lebanon police Officer Michael Smakosz and his partner, Sundi, found themselves in a basement of a home looking for drugs.

Sundi quickly nosed out some cocaine on a table, and later, kept leading his partner back to the same spot.

"I started to get frustrated with him," Officer Smakosz said, skeptical Sundi just wanted a reward.

Obituary: Mt. Lebanon officer guided by Marine training

Whether Bob Opferman was serving his country or protecting the people of Mt. Lebanon, he did it with confidence.

It was confidence, said his son, Robert Opferman, a detective with Allegheny County Police Department, that his father acquired in five years of active duty as a Marine.

Robert George Opferman of Mt. Lebanon, a police officer for 31 years, died on Wednesday, Aug. 1, 2012, in St. Clair Hospital, Mt. Lebanon. He was 70.

WPXI: Mount Lebanon babysitter facing child endangerment charges

A babysitter is facing child endangerment charges after police said they found two children alone in a Mount Lebanon home earlier this month.

Authorities said a family member found the children inside the Buchannan Place apartment.

According to police, Chad Wroblewski left the children for about two hours, but did not say why.

A Chinese national is in the Allegheny County Jail this afternoon on charges that he inappropriately patted two children on the buttocks while they were swimming in a Mt. Lebanon pool.

Police on Thursday charged Ruijia Wang, 58, with two counts of indecent assault after multiple people at the Mt. Lebanon Recreation Center said Mr. Wang patted a 13-year-old boy once on the buttocks while the boy was hanging onto the edge of the pool and once while the boy was trying to get out of it.

PR Newswire: Pennsylvania Puts Additional 20 Drug Recognition Experts on the Road

In Pennsylvania's latest effort to strengthen highway safety, 13 state troopers and seven municipal police officers have recently been trained as drug recognition experts, State Police Commissioner Frank Noonan announced today.

These drug recognition experts, known as DREs, are trained to recognize signs of impairment in drivers who are under the influence of drugs other than, or in addition to, alcohol. The officers are also trained to identify the category of drugs causing the impairment.

Municipal police officers certified as DREs were Patrolman Joshua Bucher, Carlisle Police Department, Cumberland County; Patrolman Kevin Quinter, Wyomissing Police Department, Berks County; Patrolman Matthew Lynch, Chambersburg Police Department, Franklin County; Officer Robert Keen, State College Police Department, Centre County; Officer Jeffrey Bileck, Mount Lebanon Police Department, Allegheny County; Sgt. WPXI: 10 Arrests Made After Police Discover Alcohol, Drugs At Mt. Lebanon Party

Police arrested 10 individuals after discovering alcohol and drugs at a house party in Mount Lebanon on Saturday night.

Inside the Sleepy Hollow Road home, officers said they found dozens of empty beer cans, drug paraphernalia, and teens hiding under clothes in a closet.

"They found several underage people that appeared to be have consumed alcoholic beverages and found several open containers of alcohol, as well as various drugs and drug paraphernalia,” said Mt. Lebanon police Lt. Aaron Lauth.

The Almanac: Motorists to see more stop signs in Mt. Lebanon

Residents and motorists in Mt. Lebanon will see additional stop signs throughout the area.

At the March 13 commissioners meeting, commissioners unanimously voted to install stop signs on Jonquil Place at the intersection with Audubon Avenue, at the intersection of Coolidge Avenue and Shady Drive West and the intersection of Chalmers Place and Parkview Drive. Commissioners tabled the consideration of a stop sign replacing the yield sign at the intersection of Inglewood Drive and Beadling Road.

A Mt. Lebanon man accused of taking photos of two boys in the men's room of a pizza shop waived his right to a preliminary hearing on Thursday.

Andrew Dahmen, 22, is accused of taking photos on Jan. 2 of a 5-year-old boy standing at a urinal in the men's room of Mineo's Pizza House on Washington Road in Mt. Lebanon, police said. Mt. Lebanon police said they found evidence that Dahmen, a pizza delivery driver, took photos of a second boy, who appeared to be about 5 years old, in the same restroom.

A garbage truck rolled down a hill in Mt. Lebanon and onto a busy roadway on Thursday morning when the driver could not stop it, police said.

Trib: Mt. Lebanon coaches cleared in disorderly conduct case

Two Mt. Lebanon youth football coaches were found not guilty of disorderly conduct, cleared on Wednesday by a district judge of accusations that they threatened a minor and a spectator after a football practice in August.

Judge James Motznik of Brookline found Jeffrey Borris and Michael Ventrone not guilty on two counts each of disorderly conduct. Police said the men became confrontational when a minor not on the team was struck by a football and threw it into a wooded area.

Trib: Mt. Lebanon student charged with rape, indecent assault

Police said today they arrested a Mt. Lebanon High School student in connection with three incidents involving rape, indecent assault, terroristic threats and harassment that occurred over the course of two years.

The 17-year-old suspect, whose identity police are not releasing because they charged him as a minor, was initially investigated in late January in connection with an alleged rape that took place in his car in September, said Mt. Lebanon police spokesman Lt. Aaron Lauth.

A former pizza delivery man was arrested today on charges that he secretly photographed two young boys while they were using the bathroom in a Mt. Lebanon pizza shop.

Police said Andrew Dahmen, 22, of Mt. Lebanon, was working as a delivery man at Mineo's Pizza House on Washington Road on Jan. 2 when officers received a call from a man who said he walked into the shop's restroom and found Mr. Dahmen using a cell phone to photograph his 5-year-old son, who was using a urinal.

P-G: Ex-realty agent pleads guilty in child sex case

John A. Brownlee III, a longtime fixture in the Mt. Lebanon real estate world, pleaded guilty Thursday to attempting to coerce and entice a minor into sexual activity.

Mr. Brownlee, 62, who had moved to North Versailles prior to his arrest last year, could face a 20- to 24-year sentence, and is subject to a mandatory minimum of 10 years, according to Assistant U.S. Attorney Jessica Lieber Smolar. Mr. Brownlee's attorney, Leonard Sweeney, said he hopes to present mitigating information that would suggest a five-year sentence.

WPXI: Girl, 16, Claims Mt. Lebo Man Assaulted Her After Homecoming Dance

A 16-year-old girl claims that a Mount Lebanon man assaulted her after a homecoming dance at South Park High School.

The victim said she attended the dance with her 19-year-old boyfriend, Crowin Johnson. She told police that after the dance she and Johnson went to a friend's apartment on Bower Hill Road.

According to the criminal complaint, Brian Patello lives at the apartment with his girlfriend. The victim said Patello had told her "how sexy her fingernails looked" earlier in the night.

All charges have been withdrawn against a Mt. Lebanon high school swim coach accused in August of leaving his two young children alone in a car while he grocery shopped, court records show.

David Schraven, 44, had faced two misdemeanor counts of child endangerment and a summary count of leaving a child unattended in a motor vehicle. Police said he went shopping at a Giant Eagle for more than 20 minutes while his 7-year-old daughter and 5-year-old son were alone in his car. A passerby alerted police.

Trib: Man found dead in Mt. Lebanon home

Police found a man who barricaded himself inside a Mt. Lebanon home Saturday dead in a second-floor bedroom about four hours after they began urging him to come out.

Allegheny County real estate records show the home on Adeline Street is owned by Lawrence D. Carpico, a county homicide detective.

Mt. Lebanon police spokesman Aaron Lauth could not confirm the man`s identity. The Medical Examiner`s Office was waiting to notify next of kin before releasing any information.

Lauth said a member of the South Hills emergency response team entered the house with a key from a relative after hearing a gunshot.
