WPXI: 10 Arrests Made After Police Discover Alcohol, Drugs At Mt. Lebanon Party

Police arrested 10 individuals after discovering alcohol and drugs at a house party in Mount Lebanon on Saturday night.

Inside the Sleepy Hollow Road home, officers said they found dozens of empty beer cans, drug paraphernalia, and teens hiding under clothes in a closet.

"They found several underage people that appeared to be have consumed alcoholic beverages and found several open containers of alcohol, as well as various drugs and drug paraphernalia,” said Mt. Lebanon police Lt. Aaron Lauth.

Mt. Lebanon Schools Address Underage Drinking

Mt. Lebanon School District Superintendent Dr. Timothy Steinhauer has announced the creation of a task force to address concerns about underage drinking.

"Recent reports of underage drinking in the community highlighted the need to review and reassess district programs and policies currently in place to address these issues," said Dr. Steinhauer in a blog post on the school district's Web site and in a note sent to parents.

Underage Drinking Parties Targeted In Mt. Lebanon

Mt. Lebanon police made numerous arrests for underage drinking at two separate parties allegedly hosted by parents during the month of October. Spokesman Lt. Aaron Lauth said he wouldn't call it a crackdown, but said it was unusual to have two such parties so close together.

Mt. Lebanon Police Find Juveniles Consuming More Alcohol

Mt. Lebanon police broke up two underage drinking parties in private homes in the past few weeks, said police Lt. Aaron Lauth. Even though the number of parties are dropping, he said, the level of alcohol consumption among juveniles is rising.

One party was discovered at 1:23 a.m. Oct. 25 at 416 Serpentine Drive, and the other occurred at 11:57 p.m. Oct. 10 inside 61 Youngwood Road, Lauth said.

Numerous citations for underage drinking, corruption of minors or furnishing alcohol to minors were issued. "(Underage drinking parties) were declining over the past couple of years, until these two most recent incidents," Lauth said. "It's more what goes with it, as far as other things that can happen with juveniles getting intoxicated."

Mt. Lebanon Doctor, Wife Charged In Underage Drinking Case

An orthopedic surgeon and his wife face charges after police said officers busted a party at their Mt. Lebanon home.

Dr. Eric Nabors faces misdemeanor charges after police said officers found alcohol and drugs inside his house on Youngwood Road. Nabors and his wife, Marian, were charged with furnishing alcohol to underage individuals.

Lebo Police Nipping Away At Underage Drinking

Seeing the incidence of underage drinking increase nearly 100 percent from 2005 to 2006, Mt. Lebanon Police Department crime prevention unit hit the school sports teams with a 30-minute message advising against underage drinking.

Police Lt. Ken Truver said the police intervention helped, as the number of arrests for underage drinking dropped from a high of 199 in 2006 to 173 in 2007. But alcohol and drug-related arrests continue to be a major source of crime in the municipality today, according to the publicly released police blotters.
