Walker Safety Still An Issue
In a perfect world, red means stop, green means go and we'd all just get along. But for now, say police in the South Hills, be mindful of those Yield to Pedestrian signs in the crosswalks.
That's a message that would benefit both drivers and walkers, said police who talked about pedestrian safety now that school is back in session.

I'm surprised that there haven't been more comments on this. The area around Mellon middle school is particularly bad when the students are around, even though there's a crossing guard.
Crossing WITHOUT a guard is even worse!
Beverly Road is also a nightmare. It's just a matter of time before me or one of my fellow busmates is flattened by a speeding car.
As a dog walker, I use our community's crosswalks several times daily, and I second rowles's characterization of Beverly Road. Even trying to cross Beverly at Parker – where there are obvious yield-to-pedestrian signs on both sides of the crosswalk – is like playing a high-stakes game of Frogger. If the police would only stake out that particular crosswalk, they could bring in enough supplemental ticket revenue during a single evening's rush hour to halve our taxes for a full year. ;-)
