WPXI: Mt. Lebo, N. Fayette Police Warn Parents About 2 Luring Incidents

Police in Mount Lebanon and North Fayette are warning parents about two separate incidents where young girls were approached while they were walking alone.

Investigators said the vehicle and driver descriptions in both incidents are similar.

Mount Lebanon police said a 12-year-old girl was walking home from school on Thursday around 3:45 p.m. when a white minivan with a black stripe pulled up next to her at the intersection of Pinewood Drive and Maplewood Drive.

Kids are being lured, people are being robbed at knife point, rentals are on the increase, school taxes are going up, legal fees are piling up, services are being cut, and scores are going down. Yep, like someone once said at a school board meeting, "Just like walking through a Norman Rockwell painting." Too bad the School District is taxing us out of our homes leaving nothing for the Municipality.

That anyone would take the report of a failed child abduction and twist it, disingenuously, in an awkward attempt to make it about taxes, is nothing short of despicable.

Rob, let's talk despicable. Despicable is when our children can't walk home safely. Despicable is when people can't use an ATM machine without looking over their shoulders. Despicable is when people are being forced out of their homes because of the wants of the few. That is despicable. Glad to hear from you!

Rob,

Elaine is correct, and I think that you should apologize to her for your comment.

Our community needs to wake-up and face reality. We're in a state of decline and about to fall off of the edge of a cliff.

Our community needs to start to address these problems rather than live in denial.

This is absurd. Random acts of crime are fortunately not too common in Mt. Lebanon, but they do exist. However, to suggest that the recent unfortunate events are tied to property taxes or the school project is indeed absurd. I doubt that any increase in funding for the police department would have prevented any of these incidents - and I'm sure the police would concur. Similarly, I doubt the Manor Shops mugger is stealing from the unsuspected shoppers in order to pay his school taxes.

For heaven's sake , when do we blame last month's big storm on the School Board?

Mr. Franklin,

Didn't the incident reports describe different people? Your comment suggests knowledge that this individual is a single individual. If you know who this person is please contact the local police.

John -- Come on now. Seriously? Dave clearly doesn't have knowledge of who has been perpetrating these crimes and you and I both know that he wasn't referring to a particular person when he said "Manor Shops mugger".

I know that Dave can defend himself, but are comments like yours really necessary?

Joe, I'd offer that Mr. Kendrick's remarks are absolutely necessary as they keep me smiling through an otherwise cold and dreary Tuesday.

Lighten up Joe! For a while I was thinking that it maybe one of Mr. Franklin's clients, but given attorney-client privilege Mr. Franklin was sworn to secrecy! 8)

Seriously, I want to reflect on an article that appeared in MtL years ago. The article noted that communities with a strong traffic enforcement program tend to have a lower incidence of crime. As a practical matter, a strong traffic enforcement program that is applied properly is interdiction. Interdiction keeps a community safe.

So, aside from interdiction what other ways can we discourage crime? I'd like to see Washington Road lit with brighter lights.

The national economy is weak. Total unemployment is in the upper-teens. Does anyone think that it's a good idea for MtL to continuously brag about how much money some of our residents have? I would cite the $5000 grill article, and the various articles about former residents like billionaire Joe Hardy, or the Dude from Dallas, among others. In my opinion MtL is a megaphone for various large law firms who can certainly afford to pay for their own advertising!

Personally, I'd like to sell MtL magazine and then use the proceeds to buy a police car, hire additional police, and increase the traffic patrol by one car per shift - for interdiction. Alternatively, if there are no buyers, we can shut-down MtL, eliminate the staff, and take the $1500 that Steve Feller told me that it costs to run MtL and use the $1500 to replace the street lights on Washington Road with brighter bulbs.

Believe me, our community would be MUCH better off!

Mr. Kendrick, can you list 5 things that you DO like about Mt. Lebanon?

1. I think that we have an outstanding police department;

2. I think that we have an outstanding fire department;

3. I enjoy the July 4 fireworks;

4. Over the years I have enjoyed the tales Mt Lebanon teachers being arrested;

5. I enjoy occasionally shopping at Rolliers, but their prices are just too high for me to actually buy anything.

6. I think that Dan Miller is an outstanding commissioner;

7. I like the politically conservative contigent in our community.

I could go on, but these are seven things that I like and enjoy in our community.

I too found the first comment to be over the top. I would not have used "despicable" to describe it, but I certainly agree with "awkward".

Taxes relate to money and money relates to everything else, so sure, go ahead and bring up taxes on every thread, if you want to present as monomaniacal.
