Trib: Retirement community residents settle with B'nai B'rith

Lawyers for current and former residents of the Covenant at South Hills and B'nai B'rith International have agreed on the monetary terms in a proposed class-action settlement and hope to file the proposed settlement soon, according to a status report filed in federal court Wednesday.

Residents of the Mt. Lebanon retirement community sued to recover their entrance fee deposits after Concordia Lutheran Ministries bought the bankrupt Covenant without assuming the obligation for repaying those deposits.

Pgh Business Times: Concordia of South Hills marks turnaround

Concordia of the South Hills has reached record occupancy numbers, marking a financial turnaround a year after the facility was purchased out of bankruptcy.

The Mount Lebanon facility consists of 126 one- and two-bedroom independent living apartments, 48 assisted living units, 12 memory-support beds and 46 skilled nursing beds. Concordia will mark the turnaround with a celebration Oct. 26 at the Bower Hill Road facility.

Sale Finalized For Covenant At South Hills In Mt. Lebanon

Senior care provider Concordia Lutheran Ministries of Cabot in Butler County finalized its $15 million purchase of a Mt. Lebanon retirement community and plans to make between $300,000 and $400,000 worth of improvements, a Concordia executive said Monday.

Concordia Lutheran, which bought Covenant at South Hills at a bankruptcy court auction in September, expects to make updates such as new carpeting, painting and new equipment to the seven-year-old facility, said Keith Frndak, CEO of the nonprofit.
