Mt. Lebanon To Celebrate 40th Anniversary of Earth Day

On Saturday, April 24, 2010, Earth Day in Mt. Lebanon will celebrate the 40th anniversary of Earth Day. This year's celebration will be a zero-waste event, meaning that all would-be waste will be recycled or composted into reusable goodness. Admission is free.

Last year, Earth Day drew hundreds of people. This year, attendees can enjoy plenty of food, crafts, activities, and entertainment; subscribe to Community Supported Agriculture plans from local farmers; and even see solar panels demonstrated.

Mt. Lebanon To Celebrate Earth Day

Want to learn how to plant a square foot garden? Want to try tie dying a shirt using natural local pigments? Play games and learn about the environment as more than a dozen Mt. Lebanon community groups join to celebrate Earth Day in Main Park, off Cedar Boulevard, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, April 25. Admission is free.

"Earth Day in Mt. Lebanon will be a chance for all of us park- and tree-loving residents to get together and discover the abundant opportunities to get involved right in our own community," said Melissa Cicozi, co-chair of the Earth Day in Mt. Lebanon committee, along with Beth Hedin. "Not only will folks have a chance to become familiar with all of our green clubs and committees, but there will be lots of activities for kids and adults, including quality entertainment, Earth-friendly crafts and activities, learning opportunities, great food and even a little shopping."

A Block Party For The Planet

Are you an “earth” mover or shaker? Do you care about what happens to the planet you live on? Do you want to know how you can make a difference? Then join us for the first annual Earth Day Celebration in Mt. Lebanon!

This event will take place on Saturday, April 26th 2008 at the Unitarian Universalist Church of the South Hills, better known as Sunnyhill between the hours of 10 – 5. The atmosphere will be akin to a block party to honor the Earth; a chance for Mount Lebanon residents and their guests to learn, experience, and celebrate with us.

There will be healthy snacks, entertainment, and “green” art to make and enjoy. Attendees will learn how to support local farms, become familiar with Mount Lebanon’s numerous parks and recycling efforts, learn about environmentally safe and energy efficient living, and just have fun.
