Trib: Mt. Lebanon nonprofits withhold new fee

Two Catholic churches and a school in Mt. Lebanon are refusing to pay the municipality's new stormwater fee, arguing that they are nonprofits exempt from taxation.

St. Bernard Parish on Washington Road, St. Winifred Parish on Sleepy Hollow Road and Seton-La Salle Catholic High School on McNeilly Road are withholding payment while a lawyer from the Catholic Diocese of Pittsburgh meets with Mt. Lebanon's solicitor.

Rebel Athletic Field Blessed

On Monday, Bishop David Zubik blessed and dedicated the new Seton-La Salle Catholic High School's Rebel Athletic Field.

Taking part were the Rev. Kris Stubna, Robert L.Paserba, Donald Teti, state sens. Wayne Fontana and John Pippy, lawmakers Matt Smith, and Chelsa Wagner, Principal Sister Patricia Laffey and school board President Joseph L. Luvara.

Also on hand were the project architect Kevin A. Hayes and project manager Nick Hoban.

Seton-La Salle Getting New Athletic Field

It's the start of a new era for Seton-La Salle Catholic High School. Groundbreaking for the first phase of its athletic field renovation was held on Monday.

When completed, the estimated $1 million project will include a new synthetic turf field, new utilities and a new access road. Construction is expected to last until Aug. 15.

(Just in case you're wondering why this is posted here -- Seton-La Salle High School is located in Mt. Lebanon.)
