Trib: Water main break closes Mt. Lebanon's Beadling Road

Beadling Road between Cedar Boulevard and Seneca Drive in Mt. Lebanon will be closed most of today because of a water main break, municipal officials announced.

Kevin Maehling, deputy chief of the Mt. Lebanon Fire Department, said the hole in the street is 20 to 30 feet wide and several feet deep.

Trib: Mt. Lebanon intersection to get upgrades

The Mt. Lebanon intersection where a jogger was struck and killed by a sport utility vehicle will get larger, clearer signs and crosswalk markings in the hope of making it safer, officials said.

A stop sign where Beadling Road meets Washington Road will be replaced with one that's 3 feet wide and 7 feet closer to Washington Road; Beadling Road will get "Stop Ahead," "Pedestrian Crossing Ahead" and "No Parking" signs in the area leading to the intersection. Crews will paint a diagonally striped crosswalk across Beadling and a stop bar across the lane prior to the crosswalk.

PG: Suspect in jogger's death released to attend college

A Mt. Lebanon man charged with killing a young mother as she jogged along Washington Road will be able to resume college classes in Tennessee.

Allegheny County Judge Jeffrey A. Manning agreed today to lift the electronic monitoring requirement and released Benjamin T. Cope on $25,000 straight bail.

Both the prosecution and defense agreed that electronic monitoring would preclude Mr. Cope from attending college classes at Sewanee University, also known as the University of the South, and recommended it not be used.

Mt. Lebanon Fatality Prompts Caution

Much of Mt. Lebanon is lined with sidewalks. The school district has no busing system, because many students can walk to class. And last Thursday, when a vigil was held on a grassy spot at the intersection of Beadling and Washington roads, many of the few hundred who attended walked there.

The community prides itself on its walkability, but the death last week of Lisa Clay Styles, 36, when she was struck by a vehicle as she jogged with her children in a stroller, was a tragic reminder of what can occur when cars and pedestrians coexist.

Mt. Lebanon Woman Hit By SUV Dies, DUI Charges To Be Filed

A woman from Mount Lebanon has died today after she was hit by an SUV Monday afternoon.

This afternoon, Mt. Lebanon police announced that they will be filing two DUI charges against the driver of the vehicle. Police also said that additional charges could be filed at a later date, if they determine it to be necessary.

Officials said Lisa Styles, 36, was jogging with her two of her three young children in a stroller when she was hit at Beadling Road and Washington Road.

Woman Pushing Double Stroller Hit By SUV In Mt. Lebanon

A 36-year-old woman is in surgery for a "severe head injury" after she was struck by an SUV while running with a double jogging stroller in Mt. Lebanon, police said.

Witnesses told police that a black 2003 Toyota 4Runner was turning right from Beadling Road onto Washington Road at about 12:15 p.m. today but failed to stop at the stop sign and struck a woman as she crossed Beadling Road, Lt. Aaron Lauth of the Mt. Lebanon police department said.
