WTAE: Mt. Lebanon's Cable Named PARADE All-American Team

Madison Cable, last year's High School Playbook girls basketball Player of the Year, has another award for her trophy case.

Cable, a senior guard at Mt. Lebanon, was selected to the 35th-annual PARADE Magazine All-American team, as mentioned in this week's issue. The senior guard was one of only 40 players in the country selected and the first WPIAL honoree since Meg Bulger of Oakland Catholic (2003).

Trib: Hall calls early for Mt. Lebanon's Cable

Mt. Lebanon senior Madison Cable didn't expect a hall of fame to come calling quite so soon, yet one did.

Cable's dark blue No. 22 jersey will be displayed at the Women's Basketball Hall of Fame in Knoxville, Tenn., beginning this month. The hall has more than 100 jerseys in its ring of honor, including high school and college All-Americans.

For the next year, Cable's will be among them.

P-G: Kestler, Cable trying to lead Mt. Lebanon to third title in a row

The PIAA history book is open. Pages are blank, possibly the spot for the Mt. Lebanon girls basketball team.

Madison Cable and Anna Kestler could be co-authors of this chapter.

Mt. Lebanon plays in the PIAA Class AAAA championship game tonight at Penn State against Archbishop Carroll of Philadelphia. With a win, Mt. Lebanon will become only the second girls team in WPIAL history to win three PIAA titles in a row. North Catholic won three in Class AAA from 1993-95. No WPIAL boys team has won three in a row.

Trib: Mt. Lebanon girls keep focus, defeat Pine-Richland

Madison Cable of Mt. Lebanon has played under the bright lights of the Bryce Jordan Center and heard cheers from capacity crowds at A.J. Palumbo Center.

This game had nothing like that.

"It's hard to get up for a game like this," said Cable, who scored 15 points in a 59-33 victory over Pine-Richland on Wednesday in a rather quiet, half-filled Baldwin gym. The first-round victory moves top-seeded Mt. Lebanon forward in the WPIAL Class AAAA playoffs — likely headed for bigger crowds.

Mt. Lebanon's Cable Gets National Honor

Mt. Lebanon's Madison Cable was a member of the Post-Gazette Fabulous 5, which is made up of the top five girls' basketball players in the WPIAL-City League. But Cable's reputation for excellence isn't provincial.

Cable, a 5-foot-11 junior, is one of only 30 juniors in the country who have been selected to the ESPN Rise magazine Underclass All-American Team. That's a pretty big honor.
